Orion Expedition to Hesperus

Some context based on Isaac Asimov’s novels:

According to recently discovered ancient printed books, dating to thousands of years ago, hyper-drives were not the only technology used for interstellar travel during the First Wave of Colonization (Age of Aquarius).

The book describes colossal ships, raging from 10 to 100 Km (6.2 to 62 miles), capable of transporting millions of humans to near stellar systems over the course of one to two centuries, utilizing controlled nuclear detonations as a means of propulsion. These could explain the giant ancient propellers excavated in the planet of Hesperus.

Intended for poorer, working class individuals, these ships were thought to serve as a last resort for desperate families in search of a better situation for their children, and in most cases, grandchildren. It is thought that the individuals most necessary for a proper colonization enjoyed hyper travels, while the working force were needed to travel in slower ships.
